Rebs Strong in 3-0 Exhibition Win Over Central Arkansas
8/10/2018 | Soccer
OXFORD, Miss. – Taking on opposing competition for the first time this Fall, Ole Miss delivered an all-around performance to upend Central Arkansas 3-0 in a preseason exhibition at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium Friday night.
Aside from a brief feeling out period to begin each half, the Rebels controlled much of the action Friday night, vastly outshooting the Bears and dominating the possession battle.
As was the case countless times in 2017, it was senior CeCe Kizer and sophomore Channing Foster that combined to give the Rebels an early advantage. Gabby Little delivered a dangerous ball to the feet of Kizer, who flicked on to Foster in loads of space, with the forward comfortably passing the ball into the back of the net.
Just five minutes later, Foster scored a brace to double the Ole Miss lead. Freshman Haleigh Stackpole found the pacey forward at the top of the 18-yard box and Foster gave the keeper no chance, tucking a rocket of a shot off the underside of the bar and in.
Foster nearly completed the hat trick right before the end of the first half, with her corner kick delivery in the waning seconds curling past the outstretched hands of the keeper and inside the frame. However, the goal was ruled to have come after the half had expired, sending the Rebels into the half with a two-goal advantage.
Midway through the start of the second half, the Bears produced one of their few scoring chances of the night, with a UCA forward cutting onto her left foot and attempting to use the outside of her boot to curl a shot in. However, freshman Morgan McAslan was up to the challenge, comfortably making the save to deny the chance.
Ole Miss continued to produce the bulk of the attack throughout the second half. Tara Sullivan nearly scored a third for the Rebels but was denied by a quality save from the UCA keeper. A few minutes later, however, the senior found the finish, ripping a strike off the post and in to put Ole Miss up 3-0, a score that would hold up to the final whistle.
With a strong performance under its belt, Ole Miss now turns its attention to next week's regular season opener. The Rebels will play a pair of matches at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium on the weekend, facing off against Louisiana on Friday and WKU on Sunday.
