Ole Miss Women Did Not Receive a Single Vote Previous Two Weeks

NEW ORLEANS – Ole Miss cross country has taken the national coaches poll by storm, with the Rebel women exploding up to No. 18 and the Rebel men jumping up to No. 20 in the Week Three USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.

The Rebel women went from not receiving a single vote in the previous two national polls to its current No. 18 slot, the highest ranking for them since being the No. 12 school in Week Four of the 2017 season. This marks the 14th appearance in the national poll for the Rebel women, their first since ranking No. 20 in the final regular season poll of 2017 before finishing 25th at the NCAA Championships.

The Rebel men, meanwhile, recorded the second-largest jump in the men's poll this week after moving up ten spots to No. 20 – their 21st-straight appearance in the national poll, and their 27th in the last 32 polls dating back to 2014. Additionally, the Rebel men have been at least receiving votes in 30 of the last 32 national coaches polls.

Combined, this is the 13th occasion in program history where both the Rebel men and women have been ranked in the same polls. Ole Miss is one of just eight schools nationally to have both its men's and women's programs finish within the top-25 at the NCAA Championships in each of the last two seasons (joining Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, Michigan State, NC State, Oregon and Stanford).

Instigating the jump in the national polls was a brilliant weekend of racing by both the Rebel women and men at Boston College's Battle in Beantown last Friday, where Ole Miss toppled several nationally ranked schools. All told, the Rebels knocked off six ranked schools, but four of those came from an upstart Rebel women's team that beat all four ranked schools (No. 11 Providence, No. 22 Syracuse, No. 24 Minnesota, No. 27 Dartmouth) en route to a team title. The Rebel men, meanwhile, took third in a stacked men's race behind No. 10 Syracuse and No. 26 Washington, but while beating out No. 12 Campbell and No. 17 Virginia.

Ole Miss will take the next two weeks off to prepare for the Pre-National Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin on Sat., Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. CT.
