The Competitors…
Ole Miss returns two Great America Rifle Conference honorable mentions: sophomore Abby Buesseler (smallbore) and senior Harley Gardner (smallbore). The pair joins returning sophomores Emily Cock and Sophia Cuozzo in both smallbore and air rifle. Senior and ISSF World Championships competitor Randi Loudin will take aim at smallbore, while sophomore Kamilla Kisch will compete in air rifle.
Last meetings…
The Rebels defeated the Gamecocks in a pair of close matches last season (4639-4633, Nov. 18; 4665-4639, Feb. 17) by a combined margin of 32 points. In the second meeting, Kisch led the air rifle squad with a 596 out of the team's 2363 points – both one point off school records. Buesseler tallied the highest smallbore score at 578 out of 2302 points.
Marsha's Minute…
On Jacksonville State…
"Historically, JSU has been a very strong program with 14 NCAA Championship appearances since 1980, with several All-Americans and one NCAA Champion. However, I think right now our teams are fairly evenly matched. In the final rankings, Ole Miss finished ahead of JSU last year, although both times we shot with them the results were close."
On beginning the 2018-19 campaign…
"Since this will be the first match of the season for both teams I really have no idea what to expect. A few of our team members were able to compete in the spring and/or summer and Randi Loudin just returned from the World Championships. On the other hand, others took a much-needed break."
On season preparation…
"Everyone has been working hard since the semester started. We just need to stay focused on the fundamentals and what we have been working on. If we can do that, we will do well regardless of the scores posted."
