Women’s Golf Heads to Cabo to Close Out Fall Season

Rebels Coming off Second Team Title of the Fall at Jim West Challenge
SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico – Seeking its third team title of the fall, the No. 13 Ole Miss women's golf team heads to Mexico for the Battle at the Beach (Nov. 1-3) to close out the fall season.
The three-day event will be played at Club Campestre San Jose, which be playing 6,280 yards and par 72.
Ole Miss will compete against the host school TCU, No. 12 Vanderbilt, No. 19 LSU, No. 21 Virginia Tech, No. 35 Texas Tech, No. 37 Denver, No. 42 Texas A&M, No. 48 San Jose State, Augusta, Kansas State, Indianapolis, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and UAB.
It will be the first time the Rebels will compete in Mexico since the 2016-17 season, when Ole Miss finished in seventh at the El Tigre Invitational in Puerto Vallarta.
All eight Rebels on the roster will be traveling to Cabo to compete. Kennedy Swann will be in the No. 1 position, followed by Julia Johnson, Conner Beth Ball, Ellen Hutchinson-Kay and Pi-Lillebi Hermansson. Andrea Lignell, Macy Somoskey and Chiara Tamburlini will play as individuals.
"We are looking forward to finishing up our season in Cabo," Henkes said. "We are excited to take the entire team to participate. This semester we have had a lot of lineup changes and it has truly been a team effort. This week will be a great opportunity for us to all play together and make some great memories."
The Rebels are coming off a win at the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas, where they set a new program record for tournament total (836, -28) featuring a program record 19-under 269 in the first round.
Swann remains in the No. 1 spot after tying for 17th in her home state. The senior is fourth in the SEC in scoring (70.83) and has finished inside the top-17 in all four fall events, including a win at the Illini Women's Invitational at Medinah.
Johnson is coming off a runner-up performance at the Jim West Challenge where she went par-or-better all three rounds (67-69-72—207) on her way to setting a career-low 54-hole score which was good for the second-lowest 54-hole score in program history. Johnson has shot par-or-better in 10 of her 12 rounds this fall and is sixth in the conference in scoring (71.08).
Ball carded three rounds par-or-better on her way to her fifth top-5 of her career in Texas, all while setting a new career-best 54-hole score, going 7-under (68-69-72—209).
Hermansson is the only Rebel to have competed in Mexico before in her career, tying for 12th individually at the El Tigre Invitational at the end of her freshman year.
Hutchinson-Kay stays in the starting five after tying for 42nd at the Jim West Challenge. The sophomore has appeared in the lineup in four out of the five events this season.
Lignell will make her fourth appearance for Ole Miss. Somoskey will make her 2019-20 season debut, while Tamburlini makes her second appearance of the fall.
First round begins Friday morning with a 10:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. Live scoring will be through BirdieFire.com.
