OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss Volleyball head coach Steven McRoberts announced his Class of 2020 last week during National Signing Day, welcoming five additions to the Rebel roster next fall.
Each day, olemisssports.com will introduce a new member of the 2020 squad. The recruiting class includes multiple national and high school champions, two Top 100 senior aces according to PrepVolleyball.com, and numerous regional and state honors.
Two of the new Rebels, outside hitters GG Carvacho and Samantha Schnitta, will join the squad next semester, with the other three- Emily Hawes, Amber Bischel, and Payton Brgoch- arriving in Oxford next fall.
Today we meet the second defensive specialist of the recruiting class, Emily Hawes.
EMILY HAWES
Defensive Specialist | 5'10 | Houston, Texas | Bellaire High School
A two-year captain for the Cardinals at Bellaire High, Emily helped lead the squad to four-straight district championships on a 53-3 district record. A two-time All-District selection, she was also a GHVCA All Greater Houston selection in 2018 and 2019.
Hawes led District 18-6A in both aces and digs for three consecutive seasons, and also boasts an impressive club resume. With the Houston Skyline 18 Royal, Emily participated in three Open National events, and was a member of the 2014 USAV National Championship squad. She too was named a Gym Dandie for top defensive specialists by PrepVolleyball.com.
Additionally, she is a three-year National Honor Society member, and was named to both the 2018 All-State Academic Team by the Texas Volleyball Coaching Association, and the 2018 All Greater Houston Academic Team by the GHVCA. Emily will be a member of the Honors College when she arrives at Ole Miss this coming fall.
Coach McRoberts on Emily: "Emily is another defensive specialist that we are excited about getting here. We know that she is going to push those in her position. She comes in with a great work ethic, a great attitude, and again, she's going to be somebody that just adds to the great depth that we have already at that position."
