Ole Miss Men’s Cross Country Won the SEC Cross Country Championship; Women Placed Second

NEW ORLEANS – Ole Miss men's cross country ranks No. 11 while the Rebel women rank No. 27 in the Week Six USTFCCCA National Rankings released on Tuesday morning.

This marks the 32nd straight appearance for Ole Miss in the men's national rankings. Additionally, the Rebel men have been ranked in 38 of the last 43 polls dating back to 2014 and at least receiving votes in 41 of the last 43 occurrences.

The Rebel men have ranked as high as No. 8 this season. Last Friday, the Rebel men defended their conference title at the SEC Cross Country Championships at Kentucky. An all-around team performance, highlighted by a scoring spread of just 27 seconds, paved the way to victory for Ole Miss. The Rebels dominated the race from start to finish and defeated second place Alabama by a margin of 35-90 – the largest margin in the SEC since 2015.

Leading the way for Ole Miss was All-American Waleed Suliman. The junior placed third overall with a time of 22:55.5. He ran the majority of the race with senior Farah Abdulkarim (fourth-place, 22:59.4) and sophomore Cade Bethmann (sixth-place, 23:07.8) before pulling away during the final 1,000 meters. All three of these runners earned First-Team All-SEC status.

Freshman Cole Bullock made his collegiate debut and finished as the top-freshman in the SEC, placing ninth with a time of 23:20.1 to secure SEC All-Freshman status. Junior Michael Coccia was the final scorer for Ole Miss, placing 13th after crossing the finish line in 23:22.7. Bullock and Coccia both earned Second-Team All-SEC accolades.

After falling from the top-30 rankings in week five, the Rebel women have found their way back by ranking No. 27. Prior to week five, Ole Miss had what ended up as the second-longest ranked streak in women's program history at 10 straight weeks.

The Rebel women had their best meet of the season at the SEC Cross Country Championships, finishing second to match the best finish in program history. Ole Miss trailed only No. 1 Arkansas, holding a significant margin over third-place finisher Missouri, defeating them by a margin of 93-159.

Similarly to the men, the Rebel women found success by running closely together as a team. Junior Victoria Simmons had the best individual finish for the squad, earning Second-Team All-SEC status with a 14th-place finish (20:46.4). Junior Anna Elkin was the next highest finisher for Ole Miss, placing 15th with a time of 20:46.6.

Freshman Skylar Boogerd also earned SEC accolades, finishing as the top-freshman in the race. She placed 19th with a time of 20:49.4 to earn SEC All-Freshman status. The remaining scorers for Ole Miss were senior Chelsea Drum (21st, 20:51.4) and sophomore Lisa Vogelgesang (24th, 20:54.2).

Ole Miss will take this week off to prepare for the NCAA South Regional, which will be run at Florida State on Nov. 15.
