No. 5 Rifle Records Fourth-Highest Score in Program History on Friday

Freshman Claire O’Neel Powers Ole Miss to a 4672 in Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 5 Ole Miss rifle team posted its fourth-highest score in program history with 4672 points led by freshman Claire O'Neel's continued impressive start to the season on Friday. The match was held inside the Buell Armory at Barker Hall on the University of Kentucky campus.
No. 3 Kentucky (4-0, 1-0 GARC) won the match, 4716-4672, but Ole Miss (2-2, 1-2 GARC) set its first top-three score location average at 4671.33 points used for NCAA qualification. Saturday's score was only two points less than what the Rebels posted last Saturday in Oxford.
O'Neel continued to improve, posting the fifth-highest aggregate Rebel program total at 1176 (582-594) in just her fourth collegiate match. The Frederick, Maryland, native finished third behind the Wildcats' Mary Tucker (593-599-1192) and Will Shaner (594-593-1187).
O'Neel bettered her previous aggregate best by a terrific seven points. Additionally, her 594 air rifle total set a new mark by one and finished second behind Tucker.
The Rebels tied a season high in smallbore to open the match, but Kentucky excelled in the event, winning 2342-2317. Junior Abby Buesseler (584-586-1170) finished third just ahead of her rookie teammate. Another rookie in Kristen Derting (576), and senior Alana Kelly (575) completed the Ole Miss total.
Kentucky bettered the Rebels in air rifle, 2374-2355. O'Neel's 594 and Kelly's 591 paced Ole Miss. A number of non-counters did well showing quality depth on the day. Senior Hayley Carroll (587), and juniors Kamilla Kisch (586) and Sophia Cuozzo (584) posted strong scores in the second relay. Buesseler (586) and sophomore Jillian Zakrzeski (584) rounded out the four scorers.
