Veterans Emily Stroup and Nayo Warnell honored with South All-Region plaudits
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- As their impressive careers come to a close, Ole Miss Volleyball seniors Emily Stroup and Nayo Warnell continue to add to their lengthy resumes, being tabbed to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) South All-Region squad.
Both are now in contention for All-American status, which will be determined later this year. For Stroup, the award is the third consecutive of her career, tying for the most in program history with two-time All-American Regina Thomas '11. Warnell is a first-time honoree, making the duo the fourth pair in Rebel history to claim All-Region recognition in the same season, and just the second to name both to the actual team.
Warnell becomes the sixth Rebel to claim All-Region honors, while three others have been given honorable mention during the program's reign.
Stroup, an outside hitter from Fargo, N.D., exits the Ole Miss program as one of the best, chiseling her name into the record book over 20 times, including Top Five appearances in 17 different categories. The program's all-time kills leader, she leaves with 1,553 as well as the top two single-season marks after registering 584 in 2018 to replace her 2017 season with 474.
A U.S. Collegiate National Team tryout invitee, Stroup was also a semifinalist for the Senior CLASS award this past fall and was just 21 digs shy of joining the elite 1,000/1,000 Club.
Warnell delivered a standout senior campaign, twice earning SEC Offensive Player of the Week recognition and led the league in hitting percentage for the first half of the season, ranking in the Top 15 in the country for the category. She skyrocketed through the Ole Miss Record Book, finishing her Rebel career second all-time in block assists (316), second all-time (rally scoring) with 387 total blocks, third in hitting percentage with a career .316 clip, and fourth in career block solos with 71.
The duo joins six total players from the Southeastern Conference, with four selections from Texas A&M and two from LSU.
Stroup is one of three three-peats, joining LSU's Taylor Bannister and Charlotte's Yumi Garcia, the nation's digs leader in both 2017 and 2018.
