Price-Smith Currently Serves as USTFCCCA Division I Track & Field President
ORLANDO, Fla. – Ole Miss track & field and cross country head coach Connie Price-Smith was named the 2019 recipient of the USTFCCCA's Jimmy Carnes Distinguished Service Award, the Association announced at its annual convention on Tuesday morning.
The Jimmy Carnes Distinguished Service Award is presented each year to an individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in their service to the Association and to the sports of cross country and track & field.
Price-Smith, who is in her fifth year in charge of the Rebel men's and women's programs, has served as the NCAA Division I Track & Field President since 2017 and is on the USTFCCCA Board of Directors for the second time (she previously handled the role as the NCAA Division I At-Large Member from 2010 to 2011).
Prior to taking over as NCAA Division I Track & Field President, Price-Smith was the 1st Vice President of NCAA Division I Track & Field from 2013 to 2016 and the 2nd Vice President of NCAA Division I Track & Field from 2011 to 2013 before that.
Price-Smith has also been a member of several sub-committees and working groups in addition to serving on the NCAA Track & Field Sport Committee from 2003 to 2007. In addition to her work at the collegiate level, Price-Smith currently serves on the USA Track & Field Women's Executive Committee and the USATF Women's Commission.
As a coach, Price-Smith's athletes have broken three collegiate records in throwing events (two of which still stand), collected 12 NCAA event titles and 150 All-America honors between stints at Ole Miss (2015 to present) and Southern Illinois (2002 to 2015). Price-Smith has also orchestrated the first two SEC team titles in program history following the Rebel men's cross country victories in 2018 and 2019, as well as a handful of the best track finishes in program history both indoors and outdoors on a conference and national level.
A four-time Olympian and 25-time U.S. champion in her own right, Price-Smith has been a prominent coach on the national scene as well, serving on several Team USA staffs – culminating in leading Team USA's women's track & field team at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio.
