Jessica Puk Extends Hitting Streak to Five Games with a Double
AUSTIN, Texas – A big fourth inning from No. 11 Texas was too much for Ole Miss to overcome Sunday morning as the Longhorns defeated the Rebels 7-0 to close out the Texas Invitational for Ole Miss.
Ole Miss (8-6) utilized four pitchers on the day, with Brittany Finney receiving the loss after tossing 3.2 innings in the start. Molly Jacobsen came on in relief to record one out, while Ava Tillmann and Savannah Diederich each pitched one frame out of the bullpen.
The Rebels got off to a fast start, with Kylan Becker dropping down an infield single and advancing all the way to third when the throw from Elish was wild. However, Ole Miss couldn't take advantage of the mistake as Elish struck out the next three batters.
With runners at first and third in the second inning, Texas took the lead on a Bekah Alcozer sacrifice fly to center field, driving in Tuesday DerMargosian from third.
The Rebs put another runner in scoring position in the fourth via a Jessica Puk double to left-center but couldn't' bring her home to tie the game.
The Longhorns then broke the game open in the fourth, plating five runs on four hits to extend their lead to 6-0.
Texas extended the advantage with a run in the fifth and Ole Miss was unable to crack the scoreboard, falling in its final game of the Texas Invitational.
Ole Miss continues its season on Wednesday with a road matchup at Central Arkansas before finally returning to Oxford to open its home slate with the Ole Miss Classic Mar. 1-3.
