Rebels Will Compete Against Five Top-25 Ranked Teams
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Ole Miss women's golf team travels out west for the Bruin Wave Invitational in San Luis Obispo, California, beginning on Monday.
The two-day, 54-hole event will take place at San Luis Obispo Country Club, which will be playing at 6,266 yards and par 72.
Rebels will compete against the host teams No. 4 UCLA and No. 25 Pepperdine, along with No. 17 Arizona State, Cal Poly, No. 41 California, New Mexico, New Mexico State, No. 14 Northwestern, No. 42 Oregon, San Diego State, No. 5 Stanford, UC Irvine, San Francisco and No. 28 Washington.
Head coach Kory Henkes is bringing five Rebels to compete in the Golden State. Julia Johnson will be in the No. 1 position, followed by Ellen Hutchinson-Kay, Conner Beth Ball, Kie Purdom and Pi-Lillebi Hermansson.
"We are looking forward to competing in California this week," head coach Kory Henkes said. "It is always nice to play against some west coast teams that we do not get to see as often in the year. There are five programs ranked in the top 25 so it will be a fun test for our team to see where we stack up."
The Rebels are coming off a single round tournament at Shoal Creek where they competed against an All-SEC field. Johnson and Ball each finished top-5 individually, shooting 71 and 72 respectively.
Ellen Hutchinson-Kay has made the lineup in each of her first six events, while fellow Swede Pi-Lillebi Hermansson is making her 2019 debut this week. Kie Purdom sees herself in the lineup for the fifth time this season.
"Since the Shootout at Shoal Creek, we have worked a lot on course management and putting ourselves in pressure situations during practice," Henkes said. "The more we practice under these conditions the better it will make the team when we compete."
First round in California begins Monday morning with tee times for the Rebels starting at 9:15 a.m. CT.
