Ole Miss and sophomore Cotter Wilson remain perfect at home
OXFORD, Miss.– The Ole Miss Men's Tennis team continued its home dominance with two 4-0 sweeps of Alcorn State, Saturday at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center.
Both Ole Miss (5-3) and sophomore Cotter Wilson moved to 4-0 at home. Wilson did not surrender a game all day in singles and doubles action.
MATCH 1: Ole Miss 4, Alcorn State 0
Wilson and teammate Fabian Fallert, the reigning SEC Player of the Week, got the winning ways rolling with a swift 6-0 doubles decision. The duo of Tim Sandkaulen and Karlo Kranic provided a 6-2 victory to push the Rebels out front 1-0 early. Sebastian Rios and Simon Junk were leading 5-2 when the point was clinched. Wilson and Fallert's tandem moved to 4-0 on the season.
In singles play, freshman Simon Junk was the first to complete his match, 6-2, 6-0, putting Ole Miss ahead 2-0. Wilson (6-0, 6-0) and Rios (6-0, 6-2) finished within seconds of each other to give the Rebels a 4-0 victory.
MATCH 2: Ole Miss 4, Alcorn State 0
The second game went straight to singles competition. Alcorn State (0-10) withdrew its No. 1 player after the first match. The shuffling of players did not slow the Rebels' momentum down.
Kranic and Wilson went unblemished, 6-0, 6-0, giving Ole Miss a quick 2-0 advantage. Rios followed with another dominant performance, 6-0, 6-1. The clincher came on court one when Sandkaulen prevailed in the final point for a 6-0, 6-4 decision.
