Ole Miss goes perfect on the weekend and moves to 6-5 on the season

OXFORD, Miss.   –  Ole Miss Women's Tennis delivered a perfect weekend at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center, earning their third successive victory Sunday, taking down their first ranked opponent of the season in No. 39 Auburn 4-2.

Usually one of the first Rebels to finish, junior Tereza Janatova was on the opposite end of the scoreboard today, clinching her first conference match of the season. After being up 4-1 in her opening set, she slipped and allowed Auburn's Yu Chen to win five of the next six games. Janatova responded, forcing a tiebreaker and stole back the set with a 7-2 break.

She took that momentum and cruised in the second, winning five straight games on her way to clinching.

Sophomore Sabina Machalova set her up, battling with the Tigers' lone ranked singles player in Jaeda Daniel. The two played a game of cat-and-mouse for their first set, with Machalova edging her out 6-4. She continued to control the contest in Set 2, picking up the victory after being at deuce point.

Seniors Allie Sanford and Tea Jandric both broke into heavy leads to open singles play, taking four game leads in the first set. Jandric won five successive games to pick up the opener, and continued to roll, picking up the first four games of Set 2.

Junior Anna Vrbenska also won her opening set, as five of the six Rebels singles players did so.

Jandric got Ole Miss on the board with a swift 6-1, 6-2 decision, her sixth consecutive victory this spring.

The Rebels took a 2-1 match lead thanks to a win from junior Anna Vrbenska on Court 3, getting some cushion after taking the first three games of the second to gain an advantage. The lead was brief, before a win for the Tigers on Court 4 evened the match once again.

Sanford was down in her second set but still carried the advantage after a 6-2 first set, when Janatova clinched on the court adjacent to her and the match was left unfinished.

AT THE NET... WITH HEAD COACH MARK BEYERS
On winning multiple ways and taking that into Georgia match...
"(No. 2 Georgia) is good. I'm sure they'll want some revenge. We were able to beat them twice last year. They've got a good team, but I'm proud of the girls today and impressed with how we were able to get to four points in different ways. We won the doubles on Friday able to get three singles matches. Then today lost the doubles, but won five first sets and won four singles matches today. We know if we don't get the doubles point we are capable of coming back and getting to four. The team should have some confidence going into (next) weekend on the road against (No. 2) Georgia and (No. 16) Tennessee. Anytime you win three matches in a row should boost your confidence."

On being able to beat tough competition...
"Yeah just good energy, I feel we've been able to stay in matches and not give up mentally. When some bad things happen (we're) able to change momentum. All these SEC athletes can play, so there's going to be some momentum changes where the opponent gets the momentum. Auburn had it today and we didn't give up and give them any free points, just kept fighting and kept battling. We didn't give a whole lot away. If you look at the scoreboard I think the easiest set we lost was 6-3 and the rest were closer. I'm very impressed with the way we battled."
