Sarut Vongchaisit Named SEC Freshman of the Week

Freshman Finished 33rd in Tough Field in Cabo
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sarut Vongchaisit has been named SEC Freshman of the Week after his performance at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate earlier this week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.
The freshman made his second appearance in the lineup in Cabo San Lucas and tied for 33rd in the strongest field the Rebels have faced this season. He became the first Ole Miss golfer to earn an SEC weekly accolade this spring.
Vongchaisit posted the second-best 54-hole total (71-72-76—219) for the Rebels, helping the team finish seventh and ahead of three teams ranked higher in Golfstat's national rankings. He opened up with an even-par 71 followed by a 72 (+1) before ending the tournament at 6-over.
The Bangkok, Thailand, native gained the most strokes in the field on the par 3's going 2-under for the tournament. Vongchaisit carded the lone eagle for the Rebels, making a three on the par-5 fourth hole at Querencia Golf Club. He was one of just 12 golfers to record an eagle throughout the three-day tournament.
Vongchaisit and the Rebels return to the course on Monday for the Lamkin San Diego Classic (March 11-12) from Chula Vista, California.
