Men’s Golf Duo Begins Spring at Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate
2/6/2026 | Men's Golf
STATESBORO, Ga. – The men's golf duo of Jacob Blanton and Collins Trolio travel to the Peach State this weekend to compete in the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate Feb. 7–8. Georgia Southern will host the 10th playing of the event.
TOURNAMENT LAYOUT
The 54-hole event will consist of 36 on Saturday followed by the final round of 18 on Sunday.
REBS IN THE FIELD
This weekend will be the second collegiate start for Jacob Blanton. The redshirt freshman from West Point, Mississippi made his debut this past fall at the Fallen Oak Collegiate Invitational.
It will mark the third event of the season for Collins Trolio who looks to continue his good fortune down in Statesboro. The junior recorded his career best finish of fourth last season at the event and tied his career-low 18-hole score of five-under 67.
MORE THAN JUST AN EVENT
Formerly called the GS Individual Collegiate, the Eagles renamed the event the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate in 2021 to honor the memory of Sharkey, who played for the Eagles from 2009-11 and was tragically killed in a house fire in his native Scotland in the summer of 2011.
The Georgia Southern golf program has a memorial stone dedicated to him at its practice facility, and Sharkey's locker has his name in it in memory of him. After redshirting the 2009-10 season, Sharkey played in six events in the 2010-11 campaign. His best finish came when he placed 32nd in a loaded field in the 2011 Schenkel Invitational.
ABOUT THE COURSE
The Georgia Southern University Course at University Park opened October 2013. The 167-acre lot is located six miles south of Georgia Southern's main campus. The track plays 6,900 yards from the championship tees and includes an 8,000 square foot clubhouse. The course consists of two different types of grass with the tees and fairways being lined with Tifway 419 and the greens containing TifEagle.
