Nine Rebels Named 2019 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars

Ole Miss Track’s Derek Gutierrez and Kaira Simmons Earned First-Team Honors
OXFORD, Miss. – Nine Rebels have earned Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar honors for the 2019 season.
Those Rebels are: Derek Gutierrez (Men's Track, First-Team), Kaira Simmons (Women's Track, First-Team), Shandricka Sessom (Women's Basketball, Second-Team), Kylan Becker (Softball, Third-Team), Cameron Kriscunas (Women's Tennis, Third-Team), Gabby Little (Soccer, Third-Team), Ally Mena (Softball, Third-Team), Mimi Reid (Women's Basketball, Third-Team) and Mohamed Sanogo (Football, Third-Team).
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must compete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2, be at least a sophomore in academic standing, and be active on their campuses and in their communities.
Diverse: Issues in Higher Education sponsors the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Awards to honor undergraduate students who have excelled in the classroom as well as on the athletic field. Inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe, Jr.'s commitment to education as well as his love for the game of tennis, U.S. colleges and universities are invited to participate in this annual awards program by nominating their outstanding sports scholars. In addition to their athletic ability and academic performance, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars demonstrate a commitment to community service and student leadership.
