Rebels Take on Lady Raiders in Lubbock on Dec. 4

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's basketball will travel to Texas Tech on Dec. 4 as part of the 2019 Big 12/SEC Challenge, which was formally announced by both conferences on Monday afternoon.

The Rebels are 2-1 against Texas Tech all-time, with the series beginning during Van Chancellor's first season on Dec. 8, 1979, with the Rebels taking the 70-56 victory in Oxford. The two teams then went 25 years without playing before a home-and-home series in 2004 and 2005, with Sweet 16-bound Texas Tech taking the first contest, 86-38, in Lubbock on Dec. 12, 2004, before the Rebels rebounded to a 72-69 win in Oxford the following year on Nov. 23, 2005. In the latter game, current assistant coach Armintie Herrington scored 24 points and hauled in 15 rebounds, while the Rebels shot 51 percent from the field and out-rebounded the No. 14 Lady Raiders, 42-28.

Texas Tech is coming off a 14-17 campaign in 2018-19, and they return each of their top-three scorers from last season in Big 12 Freshman of the Year Chrislyn Carr (17.9 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.6 SPG, .370 FG, .306 3PT, .813 FT), Honorable Mention All-Big 12 member Brittany Brewer (16.6 PPG, 9.1 RPG, 2.3 BPG, 1.2 APG, .528 FG, .343 3PT) and Sydney Goodson (10.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 3.1 APG, 1.6 SPG, .389 FG, .377 3PT, .787 FT). The Lady Raiders are coached by former Ole Miss assistant Marlene Stollings, who will enter her second season at Texas Tech.

The inaugural Challenge was held in 2014, with the first 10-game slate occurring in 2016. The SEC edged the Big 12, 6-4, that year, with the conferences splitting the Challenge, 5-5, the past two seasons. Each season, 10 institutions from the SEC will square off against all 10 schools from the Big 12. The format includes five home games on campus sites for each conference per season, and teams will not face the same opponent twice. Exact times and television designations will be released when available.

Ole Miss has taken part in the Challenge twice, traveling to No. 16 West Virginia on Dec. 4, 2016 (L, 66-61) before falling to TCU last season in a 55-50 heartbreaker at home in The Pavilion on Nov. 29, 2018.

The entire Ole Miss women's basketball non-conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
