SEC Title Defense Begins for Rebel Men

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss men's and women's cross country has revealed its slate for the 2019 season, which features seven meets this fall.

The Rebels will open the season at the Memphis Twilight on Aug. 31 before a trip up to Nashville two weeks later for the Commodore Classic at Vanderbilt on Sept. 14.

Ole Miss will then face two key tests against national caliber talent at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational on Oct. 4 before previewing the national championship course at Indiana State's Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 19.

The SEC Championships will be held at Kentucky on Nov. 1, setting the stage for the NCAA South Regional at Florida State on Nov. 15 before returning to the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Indiana for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23.

Ole Miss returns nearly all of its historic men's and women's teams from 2018 that saw the first SEC title in program history go to the Rebel men, while the women recorded the highest NCAA finish in program history in 22nd place. Four of the five Rebel men's All-SEC runners return, including All-American Waleed Suliman and SEC Freshman of the Year Cade Bethmann. On the women's side, all four All-NCAA South Region runners and the entire NCAA roster returns in 2019 – top among them junior Clio Ozanne-Jaques, who recorded the second-highest NCAA finish in program history.

The Rebels are once again coached by Ryan Vanhoy, who enters his seventh season at Ole Miss and his fifth as the associate head coach for both the men's and women's cross country program. Vanhoy was the SEC and USTFCCCA South Region Men's Coach of the Year last season after leading the Rebel men to the conference and regional title before recording their second-best NCAA performance in 17th place. Ole Miss is one of just seven schools in the nation to have placed both its men's and women's programs in the top-25 nationally in each of the last three seasons, joining powerhouses Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, NC State, Oregon and Stanford.
