9/12/2019 | Cross Country
Men’s 8K Begins at 8:30 a.m. CT on Saturday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ole Miss men's and women's cross country returns to action at Vanderbilt for the Commodore Classic this Saturday.
The Rebels, who last ran at the Memphis Twilight on Aug. 31, enter the meet as the top-ranked squad in both races with the nation's No. 14 men's team and No. 15 women's team according to the USTFCCCA Preseason Rankings released on Aug. 27. Other ranked teams running include the No. 15 Indiana men and No. 26 Ohio State women.
The top Rebel finishers from the season opener in Memphis – SEC Men's Co-Runner of the Week Robinson Snider and Courtney Hopkins – are both back in action for Ole Miss. Snider took fifth place overall in the men's four-mile race at a career-best 20:01.95, while Hopkins was third in the women's 5K at a PR of 17:51.93.
Snider and the No. 14 Rebel men will kick things off in the 8K race at 8:30 a.m. CT. Joining the fun for the first time this season are NCAA Outdoor qualifier Dalton Hengst and Parker Scott, who missed the entirety of the 2018-19 cross country and track seasons due to injury. Scott was an NCAA All-South Region and SEC All-Freshman runner in 2017 before an excellent outdoor track season in 2018 that saw him qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Other Rebel men competing include Jack Filan, Baylor Franklin, Tyler Moore and Jamie Witmer.
The Ole Miss women will follow the men's race at 9:15 a.m. CT in the women's 6K race. Junior and NCAA All-South Region performer Maddie King makes her 2019 debut this weekend after a superb track season in 2019 that saw her qualify for the NCAA East Regional outdoors. King was also a key member of the historic 22nd-place finish for the Rebel women at the NCAA Championships, alongside others running this week such as Anna Elkin, Maddie McHugh and Victoria Simmons.
Other Rebel women in action include Chelsea Drum, Emma McClellan, Nicole Rice, Morgan Claire Rose and Cate Tracht.
