Rebels Begin Second Event in As Many Weeks
LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Ole Miss men's golf team travels to the Chicago area for the Windon Memorial Classic (Sept. 16-17) in Lake Forest.
The two-day event will be played at Conway Farms Golf Club, which hosted the PGA TOUR's BMW Championship in 2013, 2015 and 2017. The course will be playing 7,233 yards and par 71.
The Rebels will compete against a talented field including the host Northwestern, ETSU, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Marquette, Michigan, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, Purdue, South Florida, UC Davis and UNLV.
"Our guys are looking to build off of the momentum we had from our final round last week," head coach Chris Malloy said. "Hopefully the quick turnaround helps us pick up where we left off. We are excited to get out to Conway Farms as we have heard what a terrific venue it is. Anytime you have an opportunity to play a course that has been on the PGA Tour rotation creates excitement."
Malloy is bringing five Rebels to Lake Forest. Jackson Suber will play in the No. 1 position, followed by Sarut Vongchaisit, Veeti Mahonen, Jack Gnam and Chip Getz.
Suber is coming off a top-four finish at the Badger Invitational to open his sophomore season. He shot a career-low 7-under 65 to move into the top five, earning him his fourth top-five finish of his young career.
Vongchaisit joined Suber as the only Rebels under par at the Badger Invitational, going 71-73-68—212 (-4) en route to a career-high finish, tying for 10th individually.
Veeti Mahonen will make his first appearance in the starting five on Monday. The freshman made his collegiate debut at the Badger Invitational, tying for 29th that included a low of 2-under 70 in his first collegiate round.
Jack Gnam and Chip Getz round out the starting five for the Rebels, who both competed in the Badger Invitational that opened up the season.
The first round is set to begin on Monday morning with an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start. Live scoring will be available through Golfstat.com.
