9/17/2019 | Cross Country

This Marks the 19th Time in Program History Both Have Been Ranked Simultaneously

NEW ORLEANS – Ole Miss men's and women's cross country held steady in the national polls, with both coming in at No. 15 in the Week One USTFCCCA National Rankings released on Tuesday morning.

This constitutes the 19th time in Ole Miss history that both Rebel programs have been ranked at the same time, and it is the second-best simultaneous ranking since topping out with the men No. 11 and women No. 14 during Week Six of the 2016 season.

This is the seventh consecutive poll that the Rebel women have been ranked dating back to Week Three of the 2018 season, the second-longest streak for the Ole Miss women since appearing in 12 straight polls during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

The Rebel women are coming off a strong team win at the Commodore Classic at Vanderbilt last Saturday, notching a significant 76-92 win over No. 26 Ohio State. The Rebels clocked a scoring spread of just 29.3 seconds, which was more than a half minute faster than the Buckeyes' 1:04.2. Five Rebels finished within the top-25 and three within the top-15, with junior Maddie King leading the way in 10th place at 21:32.9.

For the Rebel men, this marks the 27th straight appearance in the national rankings. Additionally, the Ole Miss men have been ranked in 33 of the last 38 polls dating back to 2014 and at least receiving votes in 36 of the last 38 occurrences.

Ole Miss finished fourth overall in the men's 8K with a shorthanded squad at the Commodore Classic, with redshirt junior Parker Scott leading the way in his first race in nearly two years. Scott finished 10th overall at 24:41.9, and sophomore Dalton Hengst joined him in the top-25 in 24th place at 25:09.2.

Ole Miss has two weekends off before returning to action October 4 for the Joe Piane Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame.
