QUICK KICKS
• Ole Miss is coming off of a tough 2-1 loss at home to South Alabama on Sunday. After conceding a pair of penalties in the second half, the Rebels comeback attempt fell short following Madisyn Pezzino's 65th minute goal.
• The loss snapped Ole Miss' five-match winning streak, tied for the longest streak for the Rebels since the 2012 season.
• Channing Foster has scored in five of Ole Miss' eight games in 2019, totaling a team-high six goals in all.
• Julia Phillips ranks second on the team with four goals. The senior scored just three times in her previous three seasons combined.
• With the non-conference schedule wrapped up at 6-2, Ole Miss turns its attention to its 10-match SEC slate, beginning with Missouri on Friday.
• The Rebels are 11-11-2 all-time in their SEC opener, including 5-4-2 in Oxford. Ole Miss began league play with a win last season, a 1-0 victory at Alabama.
• The Rebels' .750 record during non-conference play is tied for the fourth-highest in the SEC.
• The Rebs will begin SEC play against Missouri for the second time since the Tigers joined the SEC for the 2012 season. In the previous matchup to kickoff the league season, Missouri defeated Ole Miss 5-0 in Oxford in 2016.
• The Tigers have had the better end of the series of late, winning each of the last three meetings. In fact, Ole Miss has a 0-4-1 record against Missouri since the Tigers joined the SEC, last topping Mizzou in 2003.
SCOUTING MISSOURI
Missouri is in its 24th season under head coach Bryan Blitz, the only head coach the program has ever seen since its inception in 1996. During his time in Columbia, the Tigers have racked up 220 wins, making seven NCAA Tournament appearances, most recently in 2016. Additionally, since joining the SEC in 2012.
Similar to Ole Miss, the Tigers completed their non-conference schedule with a 6-2 record, going 5-2 at home and winning their only road game of the season thus far, a 3-1 victory at Ohio State. Following a five-match win streak to open their season, Missouri has struggled a bit the last few weeks, dropping back-to-back home matches to Loyola-Chicago and Cal State Fullerton before pulling out a 2-1 win in overtime against Northern Colorado.
The Tigers are led in scoring by sophomore forward Julissa Cisneros, who has found the back of the net five times in 2019, including a hat trick at Ohio State. Cisneros also led Mizzou in goals during her freshman season, also scoring five times. Senior forward Sarah Luebbert is also a name to watch, having scored four times with three assists to pace Mizzou with 11 points this season. Luebbert has recorded at least one point in six of the Tigers' eight matches this season. On the other side of the pitch, sophomore Peyton Bauman has played every second in goal, registering a 1.33 GAA and a .732 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY - MISSOURI
The Tigers have been a thorn in the side of Ole Miss since becoming a member of the SEC in 2012. Since that year, the Rebels have taken on Missouri five times and never won, going 0-4-1 with three consecutive losses to the Tigers. Before the two sides became conference rivals, it was Ole Miss that was on the winning side, earning the victory in the only two meetings in 2002 and 2003.
LAST MEETING - MISSOURI (10/4/18)
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Ole Miss battled back from an early deficit to deadlock the score at a goal apiece at Audrey J. Walton Stadium but a Tiger goal in the closing minutes proved to be the winner as the Rebels fell to Missouri.
Despite Ole Miss dominating the opening 45 minutes with a 9-1 advantage in first half shots, it was Missouri that got on the board first as Julissa Cisneros converted the Tigers' only real chance of the half.
Just minutes into the second stanza, the Rebels found the leveler. After Ole Miss earned a free kick in the 47th minute, Haleigh Stackpole's delivery found the head of Ella Frischknecht in the box and the senior put home the chance to tie the score at a goal apiece.
However the Tigers would have the last laugh, scoring a dagger in the 85th minute to pull out the victory and deal a crushing blow to Ole Miss. It was once again Cisneros providing the scoring touch for Missouri, scoring off of assists from Sarah Luebbert and Anna Frick.
OLE MISS IN SEC OPENERS
Ole Miss has been remarkably even in its Southeastern Conference openers throughout the history of its soccer program, with the Rebels registering an 11-11-2 record all-time. Playing in the comfy confines of their home venue has paid small dividends for the Rebs, with Ole Miss going 5-4-2 in its history of SEC openers in Oxford. Things have been a little tougher for the Rebs recently, with Ole Miss posting a 3-5-1 record in its openers since 2010. The Rebels' 1-0 victory at Alabama last season was their first win in the first league game of the season since 2013.
IRON WOMAN
Since beginning her collegiate career a season ago, Haleigh Stackpole has been an absolute fixture in the Rebel lineup. The Fort Bragg, North Carolina native has started all 30 matches over the past two seasons while almost never coming off the pitch despite consistently totaling the highest distance travelled as a box-to-box midfielder. Stackpole ranked second on the team during her freshman campaign with 1850 total minutes, just over 84 per match. This season, Stackpole is joined only by Rebel keeper Ashley Orkus in playing every second of the Rebels' 757 minutes of game time
PEZZINO HEATING UP
Nearing consideration for the term "super sub", junior attacker Madisyn Pezzino has been in excellent form for Ole Miss as of late. The former Florida State Seminole has scored three times in the past five matches and has registered at least a point in three-consecutive contests. Making the feat even more impressive, Pezzino has needed just eight shots over those five games to create the three scores. With the recent run, Pezzino has moved into third place on the roster with nine points, registering three goals and a pair of assists.
FOSTER ENTERS TOP 10
Not even midway through her junior season, striker Channing Foster is already one of the most prolific scorers in Ole Miss history. The Murray, Kentucky native scored for the third straight game in the 3-0 victory over Long Beach State, giving her six goals for the season and 26 in her career, tying her for 10th most on Ole Miss' all-time career scoring list. At her current pace, Foster will have a shot to topple CeCe Kizer's record of 48 career goals, set just last season.
PHILLIPS JOINS THE ATTACK
Senior captain Julia Phillips has seen an uptick in her involvement on the offensive side of the pitch in 2019, ranking second on the team with four goals this season. Phillips has found the back of the net three times in the last three games, as many goals as she had scored in her first 45 collegiate contests combined. The Rebel midfielder has been extremely efficient with her offense, needing just 12 shots to record her four goals, putting six attempts on frame.
CORNERS GALORE
If there is one area of the game Ole Miss has particularly excelled at in 2019, it would have to be creating opportunities from the corner flags. The Rebels lead the nation with 9.50 corners per game, four times registering double digit corners. Ole Miss has failed to record more corner kick opportunities its opponent only twice in 2019. The chances have paid off, with the Rebs scoring three times directly from a corner kick service.
