Ole Miss Announces Plans for New Track & Field/Cross Country Team Facility

New Facility Includes Locker Rooms, Recovery Area and Team Lounge

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss Athletics and the Ole Miss Athletics Foundation have announced plans to build a new team facility for the Rebel track & field and cross country teams.

The new $2-million building, which will be designed by the architectural firm Wier Boerner Allin within the recently-renovated Ole Miss Track & Field Complex, will house locker rooms for both men's and women's squads with space for 50 lockers each. Additional features include a new recovery area and team lounge, as well as updated facilities for laundry and storage.

In concordance with the new facility project, the Ole Miss Athletics Foundation is offering the opportunity to alumni, fans and parents to support the project by sponsoring one of the 100 new lockers with a gift of $2,500. Additionally, there will exist a limited number of high-profile naming opportunities. All pledges may be spread out over three years, and donations can be tax deductible.

"Under Coach Connie Price-Smith's leadership, our track program is competing at the highest level, and we are committed to supplying them the resources to continue to win championships," said Ole Miss Interim Athletics Director Keith Carter. "We recognized the locker room as an area of need, and we are excited to provide our student-athletes a space they can call home and help prepare themselves for competition. The support of Rebel Nation has been tremendous with facility projects, and this is another opportunity for our fundraising team to capitalize on that generosity."

With Price-Smith at the helm, the Rebel track & field and cross country programs have flourished, winning four NCAA individual titles, 32 SEC individual titles and earning 74 total First or Second-Team All-American awards. Price-Smith's Rebel teams have excelled as well, with the Ole Miss men earning the first SEC title in program history in cross country in 2018. In total, her Rebel teams have reset the highest SEC finishes in program history in five of the six possible seasons among cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.

Nationally it's been a similar story, with Ole Miss recording five top-25 team finishes at the NCAA indoor and outdoor meets and the Rebel cross country teams sitting as one of just seven programs in the country to have placed both its men's and women's teams in the top-25 in each of the last three seasons – joining Arkansas, BYU, Colorado, NC State, Oregon and Stanford.

"I am extremely excited and appreciative to see this project come to fruition," Price-Smith said. "It is something that we have been looking forward to since my arrival on campus. Having this additional space, along with our current facility, is something that will benefit our program in a very positive way. The new looker rooms and team area will have a huge impact on our current student-athletes as well as our future student-athletes, and it will give them the space they need and a place that they can be proud of. Our entire track and field staff and our student-athletes cannot wait to break ground, and we cannot express our gratitude enough."
