Tennis Alum Gustav Hansson to Represent Sweden at Davis Cup

2016 All-American Will Compete in Prestigious Worldwide Competition

STOCKHOLM – Ole Miss Men's Tennis All-American graduate Gustav Hansson will compete for Team Sweden in the upcoming prestigious Davis Cup. 
 
The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis, contested annually and often dubbed the "World Cup of Tennis". 133 teams of nations will be represented in the 2019 competition.  The championships will be held in Madrid, Spain,  in late November and feature the final 18 teams. 
 
Sweden will begin competition in Group I against Israel, Sept. 13-14. The first match will be held at Kungliga Tennishellen in Stockholm while the second will take place in Israel on a home-and-away basis.
 
In 2016, Hansson became the 29th All-American in program history, and was the ITA Southern Regional Player to Watch. He clinched the team's first-round win and advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 in singles, finishing ranked No. 33 in the nation with a 27-11 record.
 
In 2017, the Karlskrona, Sweden product ended the season ranked No. 22 and helped Ole Miss reach the NCAA Tournament for the 24th consecutive time.
 
Hansson was the 2014 SEC Player of the Year and advanced to the NCAA Individuals Championships three seasons as a Rebel. He tallied an overall singles mark of 71-45 and doubles record of 51-36 in four seasons at Ole Miss. 
 
Hansson also excelled in the classroom, becoming a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and Dean's Honor Roll member before graduating in 2018. He is the second consecutive program alum to represent Ole Miss in the Davis Cup, as 2012-2015 Rebel Nik Sholtz competed for his home country South Africa last year.
