Rebels Roll Utah 4-0 in ITA Kickoff Consolation Sunday

Ole Miss moves to 3-1 on the young season
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A critical doubles point catapulted Ole Miss Women's Tennis (3-1) to a 4-0 victory Sunday over Utah (5-2) in the consolation match of the ITA Kickoff at Varsity Tennis Center.
After the ranked duo of seniors Anna Vrbenska and Tereza Janatova gave Ole Miss the upper hand with a 6-3 victory, all eyes turned to the freshman duo of Kelsey Mize and Victoire de Samucewicz, who took their first two games to build an early cushion.
The rookies took a three-game lead, up 5-2, but the Utes battled back to even things at 5-5. The freshman duo won deuce points in both of the succeeding games to take the set 7-5 and hand the Rebels the doubles point.
Things continued to trend positively, as three of the first four courts took their opening set. Vrbenska was first to finish, dispatching Utah's Lindsay Hung in a nearly perfect performance, winning 6-1, 6-1. Ranked junior Sabina Machalova soon followed with the same results, winning 10 straight games en route to setting up the Rebels for the clinch.
Janatova looked poised to finish, up 5-2. Mize also carried the upper hand, emerging victoriously in her extra-game opening set 7-5.
While Mize trailed in her second set, Janatova held serve, picking up the 6-3 victory and clinching for the Rebs.
