Women’s Tennis Faces Stiff Competition at Day Three of Music City Scramble

Rebels Won Three Matches in Final Day of Opening Event
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Ole Miss women's tennis notched three wins amid a strong field against Auburn and Tennessee at the final day of the Music City Scramble on Sunday. After three days of competition, Ole Miss recorded nine singles wins and seven victories in doubles.
"It was great to keep score again" said Ole Miss women's tennis head coach Mark Beyers. "We did a lot of good things this weekend and we have a lot of things we'll be working on in the next few weeks. Overall, I was very pleased with our team and I look forward to competing again next week."
vs. Auburn
The Rebels took two singles wins against Auburn, with Sabina Machalova fighting through a first set 7-6 (4) tiebreaker win over Carolyn Ansari before a dominant 6-0 second set. Elysia Pool, meanwhile, grinded out a tough win over Shir Azran at 7-6 (10-8), 6-4.
Alexa Bortles and Lillian Gabrielsen both came up short in third-set tiebreakers to their opponents Georgie Axon and Taylor Russo, respectively.
vs. Tennessee
In singles, Ole Miss freshman Reka Zadori put together a strong fight against Tennessee's Esther Adeshina, winning the first set 6-4, but ultimately falling in a tiebreaker 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3).
In doubles, Ole Miss duo Tiphanie Fiquet and Kelsey Mize improved to 3-0 on the season after a 6-3 victory over Tennessee's Carly Briggs and Daria Kuczer.
Coming Up
Ole Miss will return to action next weekend to compete in the Hail State Classic at Mississippi State on Oct. 16-18.
