Rebels travel to Memphis for Match with Seventh-Ranked Tigers

OXFORD, Miss. – Fresh of a No. 1 ranking in the CRCA Poll and an NCAA record team smallbore score a week ago, the Ole Miss rifle team hits the road for its second match of the season against No. 7 Memphis on Saturday.

Last weekend the Rebels demolished their program record, turning in the top aggregate score in the nation this season, a 4730. The team was fueled by stellar individual performances from freshman Lea Horvath, who set the school record with an aggregate mark of 1189, and sophomore Kristen Derting, who fired a program record smallbore score of 594.

Overall, Ole Miss turned in a team smallbore mark of 2361 with all five counters eclipsing the 585 mark. In air rifle, the Rebels turned in the second-best score in program history, a 2369. Horvath and Derting were the top two performers in both disciplines.

Moving into its second match, Ole Miss sits atop the nation's leaderboards with team smallbore, air rifle and aggregate averages of 2361.0, 2369.0 and 4730.0, respectively.

The Rebels are represented by five of the top 10 individual performers in aggregate average. Horvath ranks first in the country with an 1189.0, while the sophomore tandem of Derting and Claire O'Neel follow in second and third with averages of 1185.0 and 1182.0, respectively. Abby Buesseler owns the seventh-best average with a mark of 1174.0, and freshman Martina Gratz rounds out the top 10 with an 1170.0 average.

Breaking it down by discipline, each of the top four smallbore performers and four of the top 10 air rifle individuals hail from Ole Miss.

Saturday's affair will mark Memphis' first match of the season, but the two teams last went head-to-head last year at the GARC Championship match, where the Rebels outshot the Tigers by 11 points, 4666-4655.

The first smallbore relay is set to begin at 9 a.m. CT. Fans are encouraged to follow along on Twitter for live updates and results.
