Women’s Tennis Wins Three Matches to Conclude SEC Challenge

Rebels Won Three Singles Matches to Close Out Fall Competition
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ole Miss women's tennis won three of seven matches against LSU at the second day of the SEC Challenge on Saturday. The Rebels will not be competing in the third day of the event, thus concluding the fall 2020 season.
For the first time this season, Ole Miss faced off against LSU in both singles and doubles. The Rebels won three of five singles matches against the Tigers. After falling to Safiya Carrington in doubles, Sabina Machalova thwarted Carrington in singles, 6-3, 6-4. Machalova improved her fall individual record to 5-1.
Similarly, after losing to LSU's Samantha Buyckx in doubles, Lillian Gabrielsen edged out Buyckx in singles, 7-6(10), 6-3. Both Machalova and Gabrielsen were undefeated in singles at the SEC Challenge. Additionally, freshman Reka Zadori won her only match of the day in straight sets by defeating junior Anna Loughlan, 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Ole Miss was beat twice in doubles by LSU, which included Tiphanie Fiquet and Lillian Gabrielsen falling in an extremely close match at 8-6 in the tiebreak to Samantha Buyckx and Taylor Bridges.
The Rebels won 37 total matches (21 singles, 16 doubles) in the fall. Furthermore, Ole Miss went 37-20 against SEC opponents. Both Machalova and Fiquet led the Rebels with 11 victories each across three tournaments played. Ole Miss will return to competition in 2021 for the spring season.
