Three Rebels Finish Season-Opening Tournament Tied for 11th Individually

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Ole Miss women's golf team saved its best for last, firing a 291 (+3) in the final round of the Blessings Collegiate on Wednesday to finish fourth in its first tournament of the season.

Julia Johnson, Andrea Lignell and Kennedy Swann tied for 11th individually after the trio all carded a three-round 222 (+6). Ole Miss improved their team score every round to finish with at 24-over (302-295-291—888) as a team. The final round 291 was the second-lowest team score of the day.

"Our team has a lot of fight," head coach Kory Henkes said. "They will give you 100 percent until the last putt drops, which is what helped us play so well today.

"This is one of the toughest courses we will face all year and to bounce back and have the second lowest score of the day was a great accomplishment and confidence builder as we prepare for our next event."

Swann, a senior from Austin, Texas, shot a final round 72 to finish the tournament at 6-over. Swann continued her assault on par 5s at Blessings, again tallying three birdies on the four par-5 holes. Over three days, she registered nine birdies, two pars and one bogey on par 5s, leading the field in scoring on the lengthy holes (-8). Swann finished second in the field in total birdies with 13 over her three rounds.

Coming off a second round 71 (-1), Johnson continued her strong play in Fayetteville with 1-over, 73 during the final round of play. The senior started play solid on Wednesday, registering three birdies on the front nine.

Lignell tallied her fourth-career top-20 finish (73-73-76—222) in just her sixth tournament as a Rebel. The highlight of the day came when the sophomore from Gothenburg, Sweden, sank a 63-foot putt at the par-5, No. 15 for the Rebels' only eagle of the tourney.

Transfer Ellen Hume, who finished 39th individually, ended the tournament on a high-note, leading Ole Miss on Wednesday with a 2-under, 70. Hume, a native of Whitwell, England, used four birdies on the back nine to post her first under-par round as a Rebel. Ellen Hutchinson-Kay rounded out play for Ole Miss with a final round 77 (+5) and placed 39th.

A different Rebel led Ole Miss in scoring every day at the Blessings Golf Club.

"Depth in college golf is the biggest key to success," Henkes said. "It is great to see different players step up each day as it continually pushes their teammates to keep improving."

Ole Miss will return to action Oct. 19-21, as they travel to Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi, to compete in The Ally.
