THE COURSE

THOUGHTS FROM COACH MALLOY
"This is a great opportunity for us to finish our fall season on a high note. We played much better our last time out and gained some confidence. I am extremely excited about this team considering how young we are, and we're getting better each week. We're ready to get after it."
LAST TIME AT OLD OVERTON
Four of the five Rebels in the lineup played at Old Overton last year. A top-15 finish by Jackson Suber, who finished at level par over 54 holes (72-65-73—210), led the Rebels to eighth place against a tough field. Sarut Vongchaisit fired a 65 (-5) in round one to lead Ole Miss before Suber added a 65 of his own in the second round. Veeti Mahonen carded a 67 (-3), a career low at the time, to pace the Rebels in the final round.
BIRDIES FLYING
Ole Miss found birdies all over the course at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate (Oct. 25-27). As a team, the Rebels recorded 65 birdies throughout the week to rank second amongst the 14-team field. Individually, Veeti Mahonen topped the field with 19 birdies over 54 holes. Averaging a birdie on more than a third of his holes, 6.3 per round, it was an impressive performance for the Ole Miss golfer.
BRINGING THEIR A GAME
Last time out at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate (Oct. 25-27), three Rebels produced their best 54-hole scores. Veeti Mahonen led the way with a 9-under 204 (67-68-69), tying for eighth place. Just behind Mahonen was Jack Gnam, who began the tournament with a career-low 65 (-6) en route to an 8-under 205 (65-70-70). After leading Ole Miss in the season-opening tournament, Brett Schell continued his solid play with a career-low 213 (73-71-69) to finish at even par.
YOUNG BUT EXPERIENCED
Out of the 11 golfers on the 2020-21 Ole Miss roster, junior Cecil Wegener is the only upperclassman. However, having a large group of freshmen and sophomores doesn't mean the Rebels aren't an experienced bunch. Wegener, Jackson Suber and Sarut Vongchaisit have two years apiece as mainstays in the Ole Miss lineup. The trio has played in 63 tournaments amongst themselves. In his first season as a Rebel, Veeti Mahonen competed in all eight events on the 2019-20 schedule, while also cracking the lineup for all three tournaments this season. Jack Gnam and Charlie Miller also provide extensive tournament experience on the roster, leading to some intense competition to make the Ole Miss starting five.
