Ole Miss Hosts No. 8 Memphis in Regular-Season Finale on Saturday
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss rifle freshman Kristen Derting set career highs in air rifle and aggregate total, but it was not quite enough as the No. 7 Ole Miss rifle team fell to No. 4 Nebraska, 4675-4665 inside the Ole Miss Rifle Range on Friday.
Derting fired a career-best 593 in air rifle and 1172 aggregate to lead the Rebels. The Salem, Oregon, product finished second overall to Nebraska sophomore Elena Flake (582-592-1174). Ole Miss (4-6, 2-5 GARC) defeated Nebraska (7-8, 5-3 GARC) in smallbore, 2309-2307, while the Cornhuskers claimed air rifle, 2368-2356.
Junior Abby Buesseler tied Flake as the top scorer in smallbore to open the day with a 582. It was the ninth time in 11 matches this season Buesseler fired in the 580s. She is averaging 582.5 points per match this season, which is on pace to set the school-average record in the event.
Derting recorded 579 points in the three-event discipline. Rounding out the Rebel score was sophomore Jillian Zakrzeski (575) and senior Alana Kelly (573). Sophomore Erin Walsh (579) and junior Kamilla Kisch (574) had solid performances as non-counters. Both Derting and Kelly tied career bests in kneeling with 195 points each.
