Ole Miss Tallies 4672 Points in Regular-Season Finale on Saturday
OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 7 Ole Miss rifle team ended the regular season with a Senior Day victory, downing No. 8 Memphis, 4672-4665 at the Ole Miss Rifle Range on Saturday.
Junior Abby Buesseler was the top overall shooter as the Rebels edged smallbore, 2316-2315 and air rifle, 2356-2350.
Buesseler (585 smallbore) and senior Alana Kelly (579) opened the match strong in kneeling. Both athletes tied career highs with a 196 and 195, respectively.
Clutch 576s added by freshman Claire O'Neel and sophomore Erin Walsh gave Ole Miss an early lead after a back-and-forth opening event. In the second relay, junior Kamilla Kisch set or tied personal bests in kneeling (197), prone (192) and combined smallbore (582) as a non-counter.
Consistency has been the key to the Rebels' success this season and that continued in air rifle. Ole Miss fired 2356 points for the fifth time in the last six matches.
Air rifle was led by freshman Kristen Derting, who continued her late-season success. She fired a 592 a day after recording a 593.
The Rebel trio of Buesseler, Kelly and Walsh remarkably all tied in a consistent fashion, tallying 588 points each. Sophomore Megan Taylor set a career high of her own with a 583 as a non-counter.
Ole Miss will now travel to Jacksonville, Alabama for the team's NCAA Qualifier match, which will be held on Feb. 22 beginning at 9 a.m. CT. The Rebels will add the qualifier total with the squad's top-three score locational average (4676.33) to determine which eight teams will advance to the NCAA Rifle Championships.
