No. 7 Ole Miss Rifle Finishes NCAA Qualifier with 4652 Points

Junior Abby Buesseler Led the Rebels with an 1169 Total on Saturday
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The No. 7 Ole Miss rifle team finished its NCAA Qualifier match with 4652 points at the Gamecock Rifle Range in Alabama on Saturday.
The Rebels outshot host No. 16 Jacksonville State, 4652-4623, and in both smallbore (2311-2294) and air rifle (2341-2329). However, a pair of season-high performances by No. 9 Murray State and No. 10 Navy at other NCAA Qualifier sites hurt the Rebel's NCAA Rifle Championships qualification chances.
The eight teams that will advance to the NCAA Rifle Championships in March are determined by scores fired this weekend at NCAA Qualifier matches and the second half consisting of the top-three regular season scores fired at three separate locations averaged together.
Ole Miss entered Saturday's match with an average of 4676.33, the highest in program history. The additional 4652 points gave the Rebels a 9328.33 total. Murray State finished with 9359.67 points, while Navy tallied 9357. Both teams scored season-high totals of 4685 points on the day. No. 11 Army also used a 4661 score of its own to pass Ole Miss with a 9332.67 mark.
An official unveiling of the eight programs and at-large athletes that qualified for the NCAA Rifle Championships will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. CT on NCAA.com. Four shooters not on an NCAA qualifying team in each discipline (smallbore, air rifle) will compete at the national meet in Lexington, Kentucky, March 13-14.
Upperclassmen powered the Rebels in smallbore to begin Saturday's competition. Junior Abby Buesseler surpassed the 580-point barrier for the 11th time in 13 matches this season with a match-high 583. The Stacy, Minnesota, product is on pace to break the program's smallbore season average. Not far behind was senior Alana Kelly, who scored a 579 in her final NCAA Qualifier.
Rounding out the Rebel total were freshman Kristen Derting (577) and sophomore Erin Walsh (572). The Rebel quartet of Buesseler (200), Derting (199), rookie Claire O'Neel (199) and junior Kamilla Kisch (197) tied career bests in prone.
Kisch (577), junior Sophia Cuozzo (575) and sophomore Jillian Zakrzeski (574) also posted strong scores as non-counters. The 195 Kisch tallied in kneeling tied a personal best and led the Rebels.
In air rifle, the Ole Miss counters were Walsh (587), Kelly (587), Buesseler (586) and Derting (581). Juniors Emily Cock (584), Kamilla Kisch (583) and Sophia Cuozzo (582) were in the mix as non-counters.
Ole Miss will compete next and look for conference supremacy at the Great America Rifle Conference Championships, Feb. 28-29 in Memphis, Tennessee. Matches begin at 8 a.m. CT. both days.
