Ole Miss Looks to Improve Odds of Reaching Nationals on Saturday
OXFORD, Miss. – The final step toward NCAA Rifle Championships qualification presents itself for the No. 7 Ole Miss rifle team as the Rebels ready for their NCAA Qualifier match in Jacksonville, Alabama on Saturday. Ole Miss will shoot alongside No. 16 Jacksonville State inside the Gamecock Rifle Range, beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
The eight teams that will advance to the NCAA Rifle Championships in March will be decided over the weekend with NCAA Qualifier matches held across the country. Half of NCAA qualification is determined by the top-three scores fired at three separate locations averaged together, with the other half consisting of the score tallied at a team's NCAA Qualifier match.

RACE FOR EIGHT
The Rebels enter NCAA Qualifier weekend ranked No. 7 in the College Rifle Coaches Association poll. Ole Miss earned a top-three locational average of 4676.33 points after firing a 4679 (at TCU, Feb. 1), a 4676 (at Navy, Jan. 17), and a 4674 (at Ole Miss, Nov. 2). Right behind Ole Miss are No. 8 Memphis (4675 average), No. 9 Murray State (4674.67) and No. 10 Navy (4672).
CONSISTENCY, CONSISTENCY
Ole Miss has been a model of consistency this season. The Rebels have fired seven of the program's top-10 all-time scores thus far, ranging from 4679 to 4669 points. In air rifle, the squad has posted a 2356 in five of the last six matches.
BUESSELER DOES IT
No individual record has been safe when junior Abby Buesseler has entered the range this season. Buesseler etched her name alongside one of the best shooters in Rebel history. On Nov. 2, the Stacy, Minnesota, product tied Ali Weisz' individual mark (2014-15) for air rifle with an incredible 597.
Buesseler's efforts also helped Ole Miss set the team air rifle total in the same match at 2372. She also set the aggregate Rebel mark (1183) and is on pace to surpass the smallbore season average set by Shannon Wilson (579.2) back in 2005-06. Additionally, Buesseler also fired the second-highest smallbore total (588) on Feb. 1.
NATIONALLY RANKED REBELS
Senior Alana Kelly, freshman Claire O'Neel and Buesseler have led the Rebels this season with some of the highest averages in the nation. Below is where the trio and Ole Miss as a team ranks among the NCAA's best.
