Janeah Stewart Repeats as U.S. Indoor Weight Throw Champion

Rebel NCAA Champion Currently Leads the World in the Weight Throw
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Ole Miss alum and NCAA Champion Janeah Stewart reasserted her spot as the top weight thrower in the United States, repeating as the U.S. national champion in the women's weight throw at the USATF Indoor Championships on Saturday.
Stewart, a 10-time All-American during an illustrious two-year career with the Rebels, won in dominant fashion on Saturday, with her winning throw of 24.62m (80-09.25) resting six feet ahead of second-place finisher Alyssa Wilson's 22.80m (74-09.75). Stewart is the current world leader in the weight throw at her season-best 25.08m (82-03.50), and her win today marks the 12th U.S. indoor gold medal ever won by a Rebel.
Reigning U.S. outdoor 1500-meter champion and Rebel All-American Craig Engels was also in competition on Saturday, earning bronze in the men's 1500-meter final at 3:44.62.
All-American Rebel sprinter Shannon Ray had a career day, making her first U.S final in the women's 60-meter dash. Ray ran a PR of 7.37 in the prelim to grab the eighth and final qualifying spot to the final before finishing eighth at 7.46 in a final that included a world-leading 7.04 from Mikiah Brisco.
On Friday night, Ole Miss volunteer assistant coach Jessica Ramsey made a final of her own, finishing fourth overall in the women's shot put at 17.81m (58-05.25). She was also up against stiff competition, as winner Chase Ealey set the world leading mark for 2020 at 18.99m (62-03.75).
