No. 12 TCU Downs No. 14 Men’s Tennis in Texas on Friday
2/28/2020 | Men's Tennis
Sandkaulen and Reynolds Best 19th-Ranked Doubles Tandem in Defeat
FORT WORTH, Texas – An early upset in doubles was not enough for the No. 14 Ole Miss men's tennis team to slow a sizzling No. 12 TCU squad at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth on Friday.
TCU (8-4), winners of five straight, earned its third sweep of a Top-15 opponent and snapped the Rebels' four-match win streak, 4-0.
Ole Miss (9-2), fresh off a championship at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic a week ago, looked poised to claim another ranked victory of its own early.
The No. 40 ITA ranked doubles pair of senior Tim Sandkaulen and junior Finn Reynolds defeated the Horned Frogs' No. 19 duo of Jacob Fearnley and Alastair Gray, 6-2.
However, TCU quickly gained control and the doubles point with victories on Courts 2 and 3.
A pair of ranked Horned Frogs proved too tough on Courts 1 and 2 with identical 6-3, 6-4 victories to extend the opposition's lead to 3-0 in singles.
Freshman Lucas Engelhardt battled hard to force a decisive third set after falling behind. TCU's Bertus Kroger responded with a 6-1 win in set three to secure the match.
