OXFORD, Miss. -- Looking to continue with their strong momentum, Ole Miss Men's Tennis enters its first full weekend of SEC action, taking on No. 10 Georgia Friday in Athens before trekking to Knoxville to take on No. 19 Tennessee.
The Rebels started conference play last weekend, outlasting Arkansas 4-3 in Fayetteville, and carry a 10-2 overall record this spring.
Live scoring and video will be available for both matches via the links provided.
RANKED REBS
Despite suffering a 4-0 loss at the hands of then-No. 12 TCU, Ole Miss climbed three spots in the weekly Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Rankings, up to their highest ranking since 2015 at No. 11. The veteran pairing of senior Tim Sandkaulen and junior Finn Reynolds carry a Top 20 rating in doubles, coming in at No. 17. Sandkaulen is also ranked in singles at No. 68.
SLAVIC'S GOING STREAKING
Freshman Nikola Slavic is turning in an impressive rookie campaign, a week removed from garnering SEC Freshman of the Week honors after guiding the Rebels to the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic tournament crown and claiming MVP honors. The Stockholm, Sweden product carries a six-match win streak into Friday, and is 8-1 in his last 10 matches.
SCOUTING THE DAWGS
Georgia comes into Friday with a No. 10 team ranking, catapulting 25 spots after picking up two huge victories with a 4-2 win over then-No. 11 Tennessee and sweeping then-No. 3 Ohio State 4-0 to move to 7-2 on the year. Sophomore Blake Croyder carries a perfect record in singles into the weekend at 7-0, and as a team, the Bulldogs have suffered just one loss at first singles, led mostly by classmate Trent Bryde and his 6-1 record. Georgia boasts a wealth of ranked players individually.
Singles:
No. 11 Trent Bryde
No. 12 Phillip Henning
No. 80 Tyler Zink
No. 88 Blake Croyder
Doubles:
No. 15 Trent Bryde & Tyler Zink
No. 26 Blake Croyder & Phillip Henning
SCOUTING THE VOLS
Their conference opener with Georgia is the only loss suffered by No. 19 Tennessee this season, who comes into the weekend with 11 wins. The Volunteers will face Mississippi State Friday hosting the Rebs, as well as a nonconference clash with Austin Peay. Despite returning a seasoned lineup with five upperclassmen and two experienced sophomores, Tennessee appears just twice in the individual ITA rankings, with junior Adam Walton in singles at No. 31 and graduate student Giles Hussey and junior Andrew Rogers in doubles at No. 50.
UP NEXT
Ole Miss will finally return to Oxford, hosting LSU in their home conference opener Friday, March 13 and Texas A&M Sunday, March 15.
