Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Falls 4-0 Friday to No. 7 Georgia

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss Women's Tennis was stifled Friday, falling 4-0 to No. 7 Georgia at Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
The Rebels drop to 9-4 on the season and 1-2 in SEC action, while Georgia moves to 7-2 and perfect in league play at 2-0.
Although the senior duo of Anna Vrbenska and Tereza Janatova, ranked No. 72 in the latest ITA rankings, were leading 5-4 in doubles, the Bulldogs clinched the point thanks to wins on Courts 1 and 3 and entered singles with a 1-0 lead.
The rookie pairing of Kelsey Mize and Grace Anne Jones battled, picking up four games against the Bulldogs' No. 54 ranked pairing, while senior Alexa Bortles and junior Sabina Machalova also picked up a pair of games against No. 30.
Vrbenska opened singles with momentum, winning her first five games and her final game of the set without allowing a point to take her opener 6-1, but slipped in the second set. The match was abandoned after the Bulldogs clinched.
Machalova was looking to force a third set on Court 1, leading 5-4 in the second set when play was halted.
Mize battled on Court 5, holding an early lead through the opening set before being outlasted 7-5 in her opening set.
