Gnam, Miller, Suber Recognized For Academic and Athletic Success
NORMAN, Okla. – For the first time in school history, three Ole Miss men's golfers were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) in the same season. Jack Gnam, Charlie Miller and Jackson Suber earned the honor for the first time in their respective careers.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically. In addition, they must have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.20. For the 2019-20 season only, due to the spring season cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, they must participate in 40% of the team's competitive rounds.
All three Rebels landed on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll as well. On the course, Suber led Ole Miss with a 71.04 stroke average (ninth in the SEC). He paced the Rebels on the leaderboard in five of eight events, putting together three top-five finishes. His best showing was a tie for fourth at the Badger Invitational, going 69-74-65—208 (-8). The Tampa, Florida, native recorded a team-high 16 rounds of par-or-better, including eight rounds in the 60s and a trio of career-low 65s. For his superb sophomore season, Suber was tabbed to the PING Southeast All-Region team. As an accountancy major, he holds a 3.45 GPA.
Miller has the best GPA on the team at 3.90, majoring in accountancy as well. The Jackson, Mississippi, native played in four events with a 71.83 stroke average, second-best on the team. He finished par-or-better in three of the four tournaments, including a tie for 19th to help the Rebels get second place at the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational in Hawaii. On the island, Miller shot a personal-best 65 in the first round, putting together a 54-hole score of 2-under (65-77-72—214). At the Cabo Collegiate in Mexico, he led Ole Miss by shooting a career-low 54-hole score of 213 (71-69-73).
Gnam was a mainstay in the Ole Miss lineup as a sophomore, playing in all eight tournaments. He fired 11 rounds of par-or-better to go along with a 72.75 stroke average. He shot 68 twice, including the opening round of the Windon Memorial Classic on his way to ninth place (68-74-70—212). That performance helped the Rebels place runner-up in the event. The Ridgeland, Mississippi, native used his other 68 to land a top-25 finish at the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational (70-77-68—215). Gnam also majors in accountancy with a 3.20 GPA.
