Women’s Tennis Wins Two Matches Against No. 12 Georgia Tech

No. 39 Machalova defeats No. 13 Jones
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Ole Miss won two matches versus No. 12 Georgia Tech in day one of the Bulldog Kickoff on Saturday.
In singles, Ole Miss' top singles player, Sabina Machalova, claimed her first individual victory of the spring season. Machalova, ranked No. 39, defeated No. 13 Kenya Jones in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Last year, Machalova defeated Jones 6-3, 7-5 at the UNLV Rebel Invitational. The junior out of Zlin, Czechia, improves to 6-1 in singles in 2020-21.
Machalova was the only Rebel to win in singles on Saturday. Two Rebels, Tereza Janatova and Elysia Pool, took their opponents to three sets.
In doubles, Lillian Gabrielsen and Elysia Pool staked a comeback 7-5 victory against the odds versus Georgia Tech's Ava Hrastrar and Ruth Marsh. Pool and Gabrielsen were down 5-2 to Georgia Tech before ensuing to win five games in a row for the come from behind victory. When teaming together, the Rebels pairing improves to 3-1 in 2020-21.
The Rebels won one of three doubles matches versus the Yellow Jackets. Ole Miss has a 17-10 combined doubles record in 2020-21.
