Ole Miss Men’s Tennis Defeats Alabama, 4-1

Rebels Take Third Place in Raleigh Region
RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 3 seed Ole Miss defeated No. 4 seed Alabama, 4-1, to conclude ITA Kickoff Weekend on Saturday.
The Oracle/ITA No. 17 Rebels won their first dual of the season to improve to 1-2 (0-0, SEC). Ole Miss claimed the opening point of the match by winning two of three in doubles. In singles, the Rebels won three matches to win the four points needed for victory.
Nikola Slavic clinched the match for the Rebels by defeating Alabama's highest-ranked player, No. 89 Edson Ortiz. After losing the first set in a tiebreak, Slavic defeated Ortiz in three sets, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-2. Slavic improves to 2-0 against ranked opponents this season, and now has a career record of 12-3 in duals.
On court two, Finn Reynolds won the first singles match of the contest. Reynolds defeated Alabama's Zhe Zhou, 6-4, 6-4. Also winning in straight sets, Simon Junk won 7-6 (5), 7-5 against the Crimson Tide's Riccardo Roberto.
To open the match, No. 7 Reynolds and Tim Sandkaulen defeated Alabama's No. 1 doubles, Ortiz and Marcelo Sepulveda Garza, 6-2. After Reynolds and Sandkaulen won, Alabama leveled the match when Patrick Kaukovalta and Roberto defeated Jakob Cadonau and Slavic, 6-3. In the decisive doubles match, Brady Draheim and Junk squeezed by Gabriel Diaz Freire and Zhou, 7-5.
