Rifle Opens Season at Home Against No. 3 WVU

Rebels Set for GARC Showdown
OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 2 ranked Ole Miss rifle team opens its 2021-22 campaign with a heavyweight battle against No. 3 West Virginia in Oxford on Saturday.
The Rebels return eight members, including all five counters from last season's record-breaking team that qualified for the NCAA Rifle Championship for the first time in 15 years and brought home some hardware, finishing third overall. All-Americans Lea Horvath, Kristen Derting, Erin Walsh and Martina Gratz will look to lead the way along with fifth-year senior Abby Buesseler, who returns for an extra season.
Senior Jillian Zakrzeski and Claire O'Neel both served as counters for Ole Miss after breakout seasons a year ago. Down the stretch, Zakrzeski became one of the key shooters in the Rebels' success. Freshmen M'Leah Lambdin and Katelyn Tinsley also look to learn from some of the top shooters in the country as they begin their collegiate careers with Ole Miss.
Both the Rebels and the Mountaineers will be without two shooters this weekend. Derting and Horvath, along with WVU's Molly McGhin and Natalie Perrin, are competing at the ISSF Junior World Championship in Lima, Peru.
Last season, the Mountaineers earned a share of the GARC title and finished fourth at the NCAA championship match. One of the nation's top programs brings back another strong team with eight returning All-Americans, including seniors Jared Eddy and Verena Zaisberger.
For the first time in almost two years, fans will be welcomed back to the range with a tailgate featuring food, lawn games, a 360 camera and more. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. CT, but the match starts at 8 a.m. with the first smallbore relay.
