OXFORD, Miss. – It was déjà vu for No. 4 Ole Miss rifle on Sunday as it turned in a team score of 4719 for the second straight day. The Rebels capped off a big weekend at home with a strong showing over No. 7 Navy, defeating the Midshipmen 4719-4687.
Lea Horvath finished as the top individual for the third straight match after firing an 1185. Claire O'Neel posted the third-best score with an 1177, followed by Kristen Derting and Jillian Zakrzeski with scores of 1174 and 1172, respectively.
Derting led the charge in smallbore, using another perfect prone score to help her final mark of 589. Her score of 587 was the second-best Rebel score, followed by Horvath with a 586. O'Neel turned in a 582, although her score didn't factor into the team's mark. Zakrzeski rounded out the counters with a 580 to cap off the team score of 2342.
Horvath was nearly perfect again in air rifle, firing a 599 to pace the field. Not factoring into the scoring, Martina Gratz tied her career-high in air rifle with a 596. O'Neel posted a strong 595, and Erin Walsh (591) and Zakrzeski (592) finished with scores in the 590s to help the Rebels fire a 2377.
Navy tied its season-high with a team score of 4687 (2321 in smallbore and 2366 in air rifle). Michael Zanti turned in an aggregate score of 1185, tying Horvath for the top score in the match.
The Rebels will take a much-deserved break after back-to-back days of competition. They are back in action on Oct. 30 to close out the fall home slate against NC State.
