Rebels Shoot Final Home Match This Fall
OXFORD, Miss. – Shooting at home for the final time this fall, No. 4 Ole Miss rifle aims to pick up another GARC win this Saturday against No. 14 NC State.
The Rebels have already competed three times at home this fall, posting a 2-1 record in those matches, including back-to-back victories two weeks ago in which they fired identical aggregate scores of 4719. Overall, Ole Miss is 3-1, with its only loss coming in the season opener to No. 2 West Virginia.
Heading into Saturday's contest, Lea Horvath leads the Rebels with the second-best aggregate score in the nation and the top mark in the GARC with an 1186.0. Kristen Derting sits just outside the top 10 nationally with an average of 1177.3 but ranks fourth in the country in smallbore (588.3). In air rifle, Claire O'Neel has started off the season hot, posting scores of 594 or better in each match. She finds herself ranked eighth in the NCAA with a 595.0 average.
Abby Buesseler, Erin Walsh and Jillian Zakrzeski are also coming off strong performances as counters in the last two Rebel victories. The trio of seniors look to continue their elite shooting and improve on their 3-score average this weekend.
NC State opened its season at home two weekends ago against WVU, dropping the match 4652-4730. Ben Salas led the Wolfpack in smallbore in that match with a 576, while Addy Burrow fired a 592 in air rifle.
The first smallbore relay is set to begin at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday. All home matches are open to the public this season.
