Rebel Women Travel Back to Tuscaloosa for Alabama’s Fall Tournament
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis is set to participate in this year's Roberta Alison Classic at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium starting Friday and ending on Saturday.
The Roberta Alison Fall Classic will feature 67 student-athletes from 15 universities. Both Saturday and Sunday matches will begin at 9 a.m. CT. Draws will be posted prior to the start of the event on both Alabama's website and the ITA tournament page. There will be no live scoring for the event. Match results will be updated to a tournament landing page.
The Rebels return to Tuscaloosa after last competing at Alabama for the ITA Southern Championships (Oct. 14-19). Tiphanie Fiquet won the singles title and Kelsey Mize and Ludmila Kareisová placed runners-up in doubles to qualify for the ITA Fall Championships (Nov. 4-7, San Diego). Ole Miss also previously faced Alabama opponents this fall at home in the Ole Miss Fall Invite (Sep. 24-26).
In ITA events this fall, the Rebels have compiled a combined record of 31-23 in singles and 15-15 in doubles. Fiquet and Sabina Machalova lead the Rebels with seven singles victories. Kareisová leads the team with eight doubles wins. Nine Rebels have won at least one match in both singles and doubles so far this season. Kareisová, a freshman, leads the team with 10 total victories (8-3 in doubles and 2-4 in singles).
The event is named after NCAA women's tennis pioneer and Alabama alum Roberta Alison. Alison famously became the first female athlete in the SEC when she joined Crimson Tide's men's tennis team from 1963.
Opposing programs represented at the event are: Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Indiana, Maryland, Memphis, Mississippi State, Northwestern, South Alabama, Troy, Tulane, Virginia Tech, UAB and Wisconsin
