Bair Continues Career Breaking Double-Digit Kill Streak

OXFORD, Miss.— In the final midweek home match of the season, Ole Miss struggled to contain Arkansas on the outsides, falling 3-0 at Gillom on Wednesday night.

The Rebels (12-4,1-4 SEC) had a difficult time stopping Arkansas (12-4, 3-2 SEC) and its aggressive serving, as the Razorbacks dropped in seven aces. Anna Bair recorded her eighth straight match in double-digit kills, extending her career-best streak to 10. Kylee McLaughlin fed her hitters with 26 assists, while she tied with Sam Burgio with six digs.

The Razorbacks opened the match on a 3-0 run and it was on for the Rebels to work their way back. Carvacho put the squad on the board with a kill as Ole Miss fought to trim the deficit. A 4-0 Razorback run allowed them to extend their lead to 12-5, as the Rebel offense worked to get going. Attacking errors from Arkansas gave Ole Miss a few more points to pull within three at 23-20, yet it wasn't enough as the Razorbacks ultimately took the first set 25-20.

Set two began the same way as the first, with the Razorbacks starting off on yet another 3-0 run. Ole Miss cut the Razorback lead to one at 7-6, but gave up another 3-0 run to the Hogs as they took a 10-6 lead. Back-to-back blocks from Aubrey Sultemeier closed the gap to within four, as the Rebels trailed 20-16. Sultemeier dented the floor with a kill to the right side to pull within three at 22-18, yet Arkansas maintained control of the set, winning 25-20.

Samantha Schnitta rattled off a kill to begin the third set for the Rebels as the two teams began to trade points back and forth early on. With the set tied through six all, Ole Miss took a two-point lead at 8-6, but Arkansas rallied back to tie the set again at 11 and the teams remained tied through 13. Another 3-0 Razorback run put them up 16-13, and Ole Miss was unable to close the gap from there, falling in the set 25-17 and the match, 3-0.

Ole Miss heads back on the road for its final midweek match of the season next Wednesday (October 13) against Texas A&M. The match from Bryan-College Station will air nationally on SEC Network at 8 p.m. CT.
