Tiphanie Fiquet Ousted by Maria Mateas to Begin W25 Main Draw

REDDING, Calif. – Ole Miss Rebel Tiphanie Fiquet was defeated by American Maria Mateas in the opening round of the ITF W25 Redding Main Draw on Wednesday.
 
The ITF W25 Redding, officially known as Ascension Project Pro Women's Open, is a hard-court event held at the Sun Oaks Tennis and Fitness center.
 
Fiquet was originally slated to compete in the Qualifying Draw as the No. 4 seed in qualifying. She received a first-round bye in the draw and due to a draw change on Tuesday was automatically transferred into the Main Singles Draw.
 
Fiquet faced-off versus WTA No. 365 Maria Mateas in the Round of 32 on Wednesday. Mateas defeated Fiquet in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Mateas played for Duke for one season as a freshman in 2018-19 prior to playing on the ITF Pro Tour.
 
Fiquet earned her fourth ITF doubles title of 2021 at the W15 level on Saturday. The event officialy known as the West Texas Pro Tennis Open began on Tuesday, Sept. 28. Fiquet also competed individually as the No. 7 seed in singles, reaching the Round of 16.
 
No. 2 Fiquet and Labraña edged-out No. 3 seed Carmen and Ivana Corley 6-4, 6-7 (2), 1-0 (10-8) on Saturday afternoon in a match spanning nearly two hours. Fiquet and Labraña won just 10 more total points overall in the match (77 to 67). The Oklahoma sisters were awarded the No. 1 ITA Preseason Ranking and entered the tournament in good form after reaching the Semifinals of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Fiquet did not compete in doubles at the event.
 
Fiquet competed at Redding after winning her fourth ITF doubles title of 2021 at ITF W15 Lubbock last weekend.

Fiquet will next compete on the ITF Pro Tour in Austin, Texas for the H-E-B Women's Pro Tennis Open. The 25k event begins Oct. 25.
