Ole Miss Earns Four Entries into Capstone Fall Competition
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss men's and women's tennis is set to send three singles players and one doubles team to San Diego for the ITA National Fall Championships beginning on Thursday concluding on Sunday.
The ITA National Fall Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego is the grand finale for the fall season. The event consists of 32-participant team draws in singles and 32-team draws in doubles. The event is in its fifth year after replacing the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. Entries to the prestigious event are earned through reaching the finals of an ITA Regional Championship or ITA All-American Championship, winning the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, winning the ITA Cup, or receiving an at-large or wildcard selection.
On the men's side, Nikola Slavic and Finn Reynolds are competing in the singles draw. Slavic earned qualification by winning the ITA Southern Championships. Reynolds, No. 11 in the ITA Preseason Rankings, received one of two wild-card entries. The Rebels are one of six programs to have two or more players represented in the singles draw (Ole Miss, Virginia, Ohio State, Pepperdine, Oklahoma, Kentucky).
On the women's side, Tiphanie Fiquet earned qualification into the singles draw, and Kelsey Mize and Ludmila Kareisová earned entry into the doubles draw. Fiquet qualified for the event by winning the ITA Southern Singles Champions, and Mize and Kareisová placed runners-up in the ITA Southern Doubles Championships. Fiquet has started the fall season 7-0 including a 3-0 record versus nationally-ranked opponents.
A Rebel will look to win the event for the first time in program history. Ole Miss student-athletes have placed runners-up in doubles twice, Alexa Bortles and Arianne Hartono (2017), and Chris and Marcel Thiemann (2010).
Singles scoring will consist of standard collegiate best-of-three sets with no-ads. Doubles play will be two-out-of-three sets as well, but a 10-point super tiebreak will be played instead of a third set.
First round matchups will be revealed on the ITA website prior to competition commencing on Thursday.
