Johnson Earned Second Straight Runner-Up Finish

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Ole Miss women's golf team earned its second team title of the season Tuesday with a three-day total of 856 (293-279-284) to take home co-champion honors at the Gators Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.

The Rebels shared the team title with tournament host Florida. Ole Miss trailed the Gators by as many as six strokes with four holes remaining, but were able to pick up some key birdies down the stretch to catch Florida.

Julia Johnson fired a final round 67 (-3) and finished at 2-under (72-69-67—208) to tally her second consecutive runner-up finish. It's Johnson's 13th top-5 finish of her career, just one shy of the school record for career top-5 finishes, set by Sarah Britt from 1989-93.

The senior St. Gabriel, Louisiana, played a clean back-nine on Tuesday, including three birdies in her final five holes to help mount the Rebel comeback. Johnson has shot under par or better in four of her last five rounds.

Andrea Lignell also earned a top-10 finish for the Rebels (72-67-74—213). Lignell carded a final round 74 (+4) to tie for eighth place overall. It was the first top-10 finish of the season and the second of the career for the sophomore from Gothenburg, Sweden.

Senior Kennedy Swann wrapped up the tournament with a 1-over, 71 and tied for 15th place (76-70-71—217). Swann sank a clutch birdie putt on her final hole to put pressure on Florida as Ole Miss rallied for the tie. She finished second in the field in par-4 scoring (-3).

Chiara Tamburlini registered her best round of the tournament on Tuesday, tallying a 72 (+2) to finish in a tie for 20th (73-73-72—218), her fourth career top-20 finish. Tamburlini led the field in pars (42).

Competing in her first collegiate tournament, freshman Smilla Sonderby rounded out play for Ole Miss with a three-day 230 (76-76-78).

The Rebels will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Columbia, South Carolina, next week to compete in the Gamecock Intercollegiate, March 1-3.
