The Ole Miss women's golf team earned its second team title of the season with a three-day total of 856 (293-279-284) to take home co-champion honors at the Gators Invitational last week in Gainesville. The Rebels shared the team title with tournament host Florida. Ole Miss trailed the Gators by as many as six strokes with four holes remaining, but were able to pick up some key birdies down the stretch to catch Florida. Julia Johnson fired a final round 67 (-3) and finished at 2-under (72-69-67—208) to tally her second consecutive runner-up finish. Andrea Lignell also earned a top-10 finish for the Rebels (72-67-74—213). Lignell carded a final round 74 (+4) to tie for eighth place overall.
Seniors Julia Johnson and Kennedy Swann have been a lethal one-two punch for the Rebels for the last two-and-a-half seasons. The dynamic duo leads the Rebels in stroke average this season (Johnson: 71.4, Swann: 72.0) and ranked No. 3 and 5 in the SEC respectively in average. They've combined to participate in 74 tournaments over their collegiate career. Both Johnson and Swann recently earned invitations to participate in the 2021 Augusta National Women's Amateur later in the spring.
After earning co-champ honors at the Gators Invitational and a runner-up finish at the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate to start the spring season, the Rebels are ranked No. 6 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings and No. 7 in the Golfstat Team Rankings.
Kory Henkes took over the Ole Miss program in 2015 and has turned the Rebels into a top-tier program. Henkes has led the Rebels to two straight NCAA Championship berths and a No. 11 final ranking in the WGCA Coaches Poll last season. The Rebels were one of only two teams nationally to have four or more wins in 2019-20. Ole Miss also won its first SEC Championship in school history under Henke's guidance in 2019.
